The system can be installed on pumps, mixers, vertical and horizontal motors, fans, blowers, gearboxes, pressure gauges, and other equipment to monitor and record operating condition data.
Q: I use a SCADA system to control plant operations – is the SmartHAWK system compatible with my SCADA system?
A: Yes. The SmartHAWK system is compatible with SCADA systems.
Q: Does the SmartHAWK system allow me to review historical operating conditions for my equipment?
A: Yes. Both historical and real-time data are always available from the SmarkHAWK Web.

Q: How secure is the SmartHAWK system?
A: The SmartHAWK system is a closed network and as such is secure from unauthorized usage. Stringent security standards are maintained. All data packets are authenticated at each layer, and encrypted end-to-end, to protect critical information from outside intrusion or hackers.
Q: Can I use this system in a hazardous location?
A: Yes. The SmartHAWK wireless monitoring solution is certified by ETL/cETL for use in hazardous locations.
Q: What is the range of SmartHAWK wireless sensors?
A: The SmartHAWK sensors have a signal range of 300 meters (clear line-of-sight). As a self-organizing mesh network, the SmartHAWK system can easily add more temperature & relay sensors to extend the range of the wireless network.
Q: Can SmartHAWK sensors be used outdoors?
A: Yes. SmartHAWK sensors are very suitable for both indoor and outdoor placements. Our sensors feature industrial housings and have received a NEMA 4 rating. They operate efficiently in outside environments in temperatures from -30° to +75° C.
Q: Is there a limit to how many sensors I can install at my facility?
A: The SmartHAWK system allows a maximum of 240 sensors per wireless gateway. Multiple gateways may be deployed for very large installations.
Q: Is this system compatible with my existing equipment?
A: Yes. The SmartHAWK wireless monitoring solution is compatible with existing equipment as well as with new installations.
Q: Can the SmartHAWK system monitor and respond to ‘uneven’ liquids, such as those pumped in a wastewater treatment facility?
A: Yes. The SmartHAWK system has proprietary firmware that compensates for unique vibration behavior due to different pumping conditions, as well as user adjustable alert thresholds.
Installation & Testing
Q: What is required to install the SmartHAWK system?
A: The SmartHAWK system was designed for quick and simple installation by following instructions detailed in the SmartHAWK Installation and Operation Manual (available with every order). Once the sensors are mounted to your equipment, the wireless gateway connects to the sensors via SmartHAWK's self-organizing, self-healing wireless mesh network. Engineers and support staff from TDG Technologies are available to help guide you through the installation process to address any questions you may have.
Q: How long does it take to install a SmartHAWK system?
A: SmartHAWK sensors can be installed on a single piece of equipment in a matter of minutes. Setting up the wireless mesh and testing the system is typically completed in a few hours.
Q: Can we set up SmartHAWK sensors for a free trial period?
A: Absolutely. Just contact us, and we’ll work with you to make sure you have an opportunity to test the system prior to purchasing.
Q: What type of maintenance is required for the SmartHAWK system?
A: SmartHAWK wireless sensors are designed for minimal maintenance. Each SmartHAWK sensor contains a non-proprietary 3.6V lithium AA battery with a life expectancy that exceeds one year. Accordingly, battery replacement is required from time to time.
Q: Do my operators need special training to use the SmartHAWK system?
A: No special training is required. Data is recorded and transmitted to an on-site computer or to the web through the SmartHAWK Web interface. SmartHAWK data is presented on an easy to interpret graphical user interface. Users can also run the SmartHAWK FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) algorithm for more detailed data analysis.
